Power Soccer is a relatively new and fast-paced sport for individuals confined to or dependent upon power wheelchairs for their mode of movement. Played on a regulation-size basketball court, it is comprised of two teams of four players each, attempting to score in their opponent's goal and defend their own --- just like in the outdoor game. Just don't refer to these players as having "special needs," but as they zip across the court and maneuver the soccer ball, rather special talents.
The sport is open to players of all ages and both sexes. Players are drawn from individuals afflicted with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, stroke victims, head trauma victims and quadriplegics. They all love the thrill of competing, whether the game ends in a win, a loss or a tie.
With a limited number of teams to compete against in their immediate area, they travel to Power Soccer competitions throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. Any "special needs" these teams may have relates to the area of funding, for what is not covered by donations and sponsorships is borne by the families of the competitors.
Perhaps you have an unwanted or partially-used gift card or gift certificate to help offset their expenses in the following areas: Gasoline Retailers (for travel expenses to and from the tournaments); Hotels & Motels (and only being able to accommodate one power wheelchair per guest room, a team's hotel cost is double what most other sports teams would incur); Fast Food or Casual Dining Restaurants; and Athletic, Sporting & Outdoor Recreation (for soccer balls and other playing equipment). This group of enthusiastic competitors would appreciate your support!
